We hope that you’ve had a great summer. We have enjoyed seeing many of you at our various events over the summer and getting to know you better. If you haven’t had a chance to attend an event, we have two opportunities left. September 18th is our last Diablita Friday pizza night. We’ll be serving wine and pizza on the patio, from 6-8 pm that evening. October 11th is our last wine club party. This is going to be an 80’s theme party. We will be having a contest for the best dressed wine club member, so look through your closet (come on, admit it, most of us own a piece of clothing from the 80’s) and drop by between 12-4 pm. There is a limit to the amount of people we can have, so RSVP soon.

Your third quarter shipment will be shipped out (and ready for pick up) on Tuesday, September 1st and Wednesday, September 2nd (CA, AZ & NV will be shipped on Wednesday). If you have an address change or any other request, I need you to let me know by Monday, August 31st, as we will be packing all of the club shipments on Tuesday. Moving forward, you will be responsible for any re-shipment charges, so be sure to let us know.

If you pick up your shipments, we hope you will come up and see us over the Labor Day weekend. On Saturday, September 5, 2009, we will be serving sliders (mini-hamburgers) at Everett Ridge, in Healdsburg. Come grab your wine and have a bite to eat that day.

I know you all are wondering what you will be receiving with this shipment…so, without further ado… Everyone will be receiving our 2007 Russian River Pinot. Combo members will also receive our 2008 Sauvignon Blanc (that’s right, you requested we keep making it and we listened). Reds-only members will also receive our 2006 Alexander Valley Cabernet. If you would like to purchase more of our delicious wines, you will receive a 25% discount on a single case. If you purchase two or more cases you will receive a 30% discount and free shipping. As always, you can mix and match all Esterlina wines to make up your case purchases.


In closing, we wanted to let you know about the Holiday gift packs that we will be featuring this holiday season. Order before October 15, 2009, and receive an extra 5% off, and big orders will receive bigger discounts! 2005 Port, Sonoma County

Esterlina’s ruby-styled port has always been combination of grapes. The 2005 vintage continues that tradition, with some Dry Creek zinfandel, syrah, and a bit of the traditional port grape, Touriga Nacional. As always, it is a big, indulgent port that will pair well with desserts, such as a warm chocolate cake, or by itself. Enjoy.


2007 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley, Esterlina Estate Vineyard

The 2007 Esterlina Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir is very much like our 2006 Anderson Valley Reserve Pinot Noir—a wine we believe to be among the best we have ever produced. Again, from this vineyard, one is apt to get those ripe black cherry, plum, earthy mushroom and spicy cinnamon flavors, and this wine shows those traits. For as ripe as it is, however, it has more than enough acidity. It ends with the customary very long finish. NOTE: Like any red wine that we ship to you, please let it settle for a week or two after you receive it.


2008 Late Harvest Riesling, Cole Ranch

In its late harvest form, our Riesling has the ever-present peach, lemon, floral and vanilla flavors. Notwithstanding the extra residual sugar, you really do notice the wine’s rich complexity, with a bit of melon on the nose, and rich candied fruit in the finish. If we may make one recommendation for serving: try not to over-chill this wine. The flavors are so vivid when it is served just slightly cooled or at room temperature. For dessert, try it with a vanilla-bean crème brulee. With an appetizer, pair it with spring rolls and sweet-spicy dipping sauce.
